I lead software development and implementation for a client that is one of the largest private-sector banks in India; we build its internet banking application. I work for Backbase, a financial technology company that builds an AI-native Banking OS to unify digital banking operations. Alongside implementing AI-driven products for banks, we use an AI-powered software delivery lifecycle to deliver meaningful results for our customers.
It was an opportunity to test my understanding, experience and judgment of AI technology and of AI programmes that are meant to deliver tangible results for a business. The AIDP is probably the first credential of its kind to evaluate real capability through a tough examination. There are many courses and certifications for generative AI and agentic AI, but a credential that validates the competency of those expected to deliver tangible business value rarely exists.
As with any technology programme, choosing the right problem and having the supporting ecosystem in place are the keys. Alongside the technical ecosystem, adoption by end users needs consistent organisational change management, the policy changes that go with it, and leadership's active interest.
The success of any technology implementation is defined by how well its intended users adopt it to achieve the business outcomes. A digital transformation programme completed on time and on budget, but not adopted by its intended users in their day-to-day work, may still be a failure.
Take the examination, for the credential and also for the perspective it gives on the competencies you need to lead AI programmes, or any digital transformation programme, successfully. There are few places to learn or test the things top leaders usually acquire over years of successes and failures. The examination itself can be a huge learning experience. It may prompt you to look back at what you have learned over the years and the course corrections you need to make, and it will broaden your thinking.
