AIDP Exam Guide: Format, Sittings, Fees and Preparation

Last checked: 22 October 2026.

The AI Delivery Professional (AIDP) exam is a single four-hour, computer-based examination sat in person, which confers the AIDP designation from ADaSci on passing. It costs USD 350 per sitting, uses scenario-based best-answer items across six weighted domains, and has an indicative first-attempt pass rate of around 35%. The next sittings are in Singapore and New York on 13 November 2026.

This guide covers what the AIDP certification recognises, who should sit it, what happens on exam day, every scheduled sitting, the fee, how the pass mark is set, how to prepare and how to keep the credential current. All facts come from the official AIDP pages.

What the AIDP certification recognises

AIDP certifies delivery judgment on enterprise AI: the ability to frame the decision that justifies a project, choose what to build, buy or leave alone, sequence delivery so value lands first, hold the line on data, risk and reversibility, and build adoption inside the workflow that already exists. ADaSci positions the AI Delivery Professional as the person accountable for the outcome, alongside the engineers who build a system and the risk teams who govern it.

The designation is awarded by examination and conferred by ADaSci. The AIDP FAQ is explicit that it is a professional designation and carries no standing as a degree, diploma or academic qualification. On passing, holders receive the right to use AIDP after their name, a certificate, a digital badge and a public verification page for their credential number, and they are listed on the AIDP holder registry.

The need for this role is a recurring theme in AIM's reporting. Its analysis of why enterprise AI projects stall between pilot and production traces most stalls to organisational readiness, governance and trust, which are the judgments the AIDP exam measures.

AIDP eligibility: who should register

Registration is open, and ADaSci describes the exam as self-selecting. The eligibility page recommends five or more years leading or delivering enterprise AI and data initiatives, and states that this is a recommendation with no mandatory threshold.

The roles ADaSci lists are product managers, delivery leads, solution architects, transformation leads, consultants, heads of AI and data, and programme owners. In practice, the common thread is accountability: if a working model fails to move a business number, you are the person expected to explain why and fix it.

What happens on exam day

The AIDP exam is sat in one four-hour session at a venue in your chosen city, on a computer, under invigilation. ADaSci holds sittings in person so that every candidate is measured against the same bar in the same conditions. Venue details and arrival instructions are emailed two weeks before the date, according to the registration page.

Each item presents a dense enterprise scenario with conflicting pressures and four defensible options, and you choose the best one. The public sample item gives a sense of the shape: a health insurer's claims-triage model is 91% accurate, yet six months in only 6% of claims are routed through it and cycle times have not moved. The question asks for the highest-leverage first action, and the options range from retraining the model to embedding its recommendation in the adjudicator's existing workflow.

The Candidate Handbook, linked from the prepare page, sets out the rules, what to bring and how results are issued. Read it before you register.

AIDP exam dates and sittings

ADaSci has scheduled seven sittings across 2026 and early 2027. All fall on a Friday, venues are to be announced, and seats are confirmed on payment.

How AIDP scoring and results work

The AIDP pass mark is a fixed cut score set by a standard-setting panel of experts, and ADaSci states plainly that results are not graded on a curve. A candidate passes by clearing the bar, regardless of how others in the same sitting perform.

The standard sits within a three-part structure described on the standard page. AIM Research authors the body of knowledge, an examination board owns item writing, review and standard setting, and the standard-setting panel fixes the cut score. ADaSci then confers the designation.

The exam is built to be hard, and ADaSci expects around one in three candidates to clear it on a first attempt. Candidates who do not pass can retake at the next sitting. Details on how results are issued are in the Candidate Handbook.

What the AIDP exam covers

The AIDP body of knowledge sets out six domains of judgment with published weights.

The full Competency Blueprint, which lists every domain, weight and capability tested, is free to download from the body of knowledge page.

How to prepare for the AIDP exam

AIDP has no prep course, by design. ADaSci's position is that the exam tests judgment you already have from leading delivery, so preparation means learning the shape of the exam. The prepare page recommends a short sequence.

  1. Read the body of knowledge and download the Competency Blueprint to see each domain and its weight.
  2. Sit the AIDP sample examination, which ADaSci calls the truest dry run.
  3. Work through the sample items and their rationale.
  4. Read the Candidate Handbook for rules, format and what to bring.

The sample exam is a three-hour, 45-item scenario examination taken online in one uninterrupted session. It runs under the same rules as the real thing: the clock does not pause, you can flag and revisit items, the browser is proctored, and answers submit automatically at three hours. The first attempt is free and a retry costs USD 19. Afterwards you receive an overall score band against the AIDP standard, a per-domain breakdown and item-level rationale with an explanation of the runner-up answer.

ADaSci explains why there is no reading list in a short Journal piece. The advice is direct: if you score in the top band on the sample exam, register; if you do not, what closes the gap is another cycle of delivery experience.

Maintaining the AIDP credential

AIDP is valid for two years. Holders renew by sitting a shorter update examination, taken online in one session, for USD 150, and the cycle repeats every two years, according to the maintenance page. Renewal is by examination only; attendance at events or courses does not count.

While the designation is valid, holders may use the AIDP post-nominal and holder mark under ADaSci's usage rules on profiles, email signatures and CVs.

Registering for AIDP

To register, choose a city and date, add the sitting to your cart and pay securely online. If you are unsure whether you are ready, sit the free sample exam first, then register for your AIDP sitting. Questions go to the AIDP team at info@adasci.org, and the team replies within one working day.
